Celebration of Sunday Mass is once again done in the praying area of the Shrine

Online transmission of the Eucharist is also resumed

The celebration of the Sunday Mass is once again done in the Praying Area of the Shrine, since Palm Sunday, the 9th of April, which marks the beginning of the summer schedule, inaugurating the improvement works done in the Plaza with the aim of providing more comfort and better conditions to the pilgrims.

Therefore, from 10:00 am of this Palm Sunday, there will be the Rosary in the Chapel of the Apparitions, which will be followed, at 11:00 am, by the blessing of the palm branches, the procession with an image of the Pilgrim Virgin towards the new altar of the Praying Area and the Eucharist.

Until now, out of the summer schedule, the Sunday Mass was celebrated in the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity.

Having the Eucharist celebrated again in the Praying Area, the online transmission of the Mass is also resumed in the website of the Shrine (www.fatima.pt)

The transmission is done through the images captured by four cameras, three of them installed in the new Presbytery and the fourth one placed on top of the tower of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary.

The improvements, thought for the commemorations of the Centennial of the Apparitions, include, besides the new presbytery dedicated on the 8th of May last year, a new asphalt pavement (rectified and smoothened), a new sound system and the improvement of the illumination system with lamps of Led technology.

The pathway of the promises also benefited from the improvements, and there was an extension of the Portuguese pavement placed between the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity and the entrance of the Praying Area.

The works, which took around three months, had the aim of “requalifying the pilgrims’ hospitality and prayer areas in order to ensure the comfort of those who come to the Shrine of Fatima” said Fr. Cristiano Saraiva, director of the Administrative Services of the Shrine, in a declaration to the Press Room of Fatima.
