The car is certainly the most convenient way to get to Fatima, but it has its difficulties, considering the affluence of pilgrims to the Shrine of Fatima expected on May 12th and 13th 

Although the predictable traffic congestion of the approach roads to Fatima, the highway A1 (Lisbon – Porto) remains the most appointed one to Fatima especially if your trip is planned some hours before the periods of major traffic.

Coming from the north by A1, the more appropriate exist is Fatima. Coming out by this exit, there are two options: Roundabout North and Roundabout South, bearing in mind that the nearest parking lots of the Shrine are the first to be full. 

A1 coming from North with traffic:

In case of intense traffic near Fatima, the alternative is to exit A1 at the previous exit Leiria and follow the national road N113 to Quinta da Sardinha, then turning right by the road Rua da Vela and follow the national road N357 to Fatima. 

 

A1 coming from South:

Coming from the north by A1, the more appropriate exist is Fatima. Coming out by this exit, there are two options: Roundabout North and Roundabout South, bearing in mind that the nearest parking lots of the Shrine are the first to be full. 

A1 coming from South with traffic:

In case of intense traffic near Fatima, the alternative is to exit A1 at the previous exit Leiria and follow the national road N113 to Quinta da Sardinha, then turning right by the road Rua da Vela and follow the national road N357 to Fatima. v

 

Coming from Inland A23:

Coming from inland areas of the country, the advisable access is A23 where it is possible to join A1 at Torres Novas or follow from Torres Novas the national road N357. 

 

Coming from Western:

Coming from western side of the country, there is the highway A8 to Leiria and then follow the national road N113 to Quinta da Sardinha, then turning right by the road Rua da Vela and follow the national road N357 to Fatima.

As alternative, in A8, exit in Valado dos Frades and follow the complementary road IC9 to Loureira, and then Fatima.
