The Shrine of Fatima’s bells are ringing as a sign of joy and happiness

Francisco and Jacinta Marto are going to be canonized in Fatima on the 13th of May.

The Shrine of Fatima’s bells rang today as a sign of joy and happiness after receiving the news that Francisco and Jacinta Marto’s canonization will be taking place in Fatima on the 13th of May.

Soon after that, The Rector of the Shrine, Father Carlos Cabecinhas, informed the pilgrims gathered around the Chapel of the Apparitions that the Pope had just announced that Francisco and Jacinta Marto’s canonization will be taking place in Fatima on the 13th of May, the news was welcomed with applause.

“We are obviously delighted by this news and give thanks to God for these examples of holiness that are offered to us”, he said, and he added “we also ask, in so special a place, the Chapel of the Apparitions, Our Lady’s help to learn how to imitate the example of the future saints Francisco and Jacinta Marto.”

In a “moment of humble prayer”, he invited the pilgrims to recite together Glory Be, Our Father, Hail Mary, ending with the Little Shepherds anthem.

The decision regarding the place and date of the canonization was announced today by Pope Francis at an ordinary public consistory held at the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

The ceremony will be held during the Mass of the first International Anniversary Pilgrimage of the Centennial of the Apparitions, which will be presided by Pope Francis.
